Benson Dane. The legendary status that never was. The main event caliber mega star that never truly grasped his full potential. The man that kids loved, and adults hated due to his "for the kids" attitude. He was a good man, but being a good man doesn't take you to the top.
A colossal list of injuries had derailed him for the majority of his televised career. It must of been a frustrating experience for a man who was so consistent, who didn't experience injury or pain in the indies. While he had to sit at home and recover his right knee, both elbows, and a lingering hamstring injury, he watched others rise to success. He watched as people he KNEW he could beat climbed the ladder of Viral Wrestling, knocking at the door of success and booting it in.
It must of pissed him off knowing that Miss York was gallivanting the globe, offering out lucrative contracts to people that he deemed to be below him. It must of really made his blood boil that his expired contract wasn't an issue of interest to the staff of Viral Wrestling. He was just a walking wheel chair to them, anyways. They could pay him a "shut-the-fuck-up-appreciate-the-money" veteran check that basically allowed them to use his footage in the future, making money off his work for the scraps they paid him. He could just rot away and those checks would continue to fill the mailbox of his upper mountain home in Hamilton, Ontario. Would they check on the well being of one of their former "go-to" guys? Nope. Nada. Never.
Yes, it's fair to say he was pissed off. He didn't get a letter in the mail about the upcoming fourth season. He wasn't informed that people should be flying back to compete. As a matter of fact, he was officially a "free agent" according to most wrestling boards, ranking sites, and online circles. Youtube had a video called "Where is Benson Dane headed now?", a 45 minute documentary speculating his return to the Canadian independent leagues. Some thought he'd go to Japan and continue his style over there, where the Japanese crowd would appreciate him. Some in the documentary questioned if he'd go work as a staff member to Jeff Hart's POWER Wrestling Promotion, PWP.
Everyone speculated that he'd be somewhere else. No one guessed that the deep down rage that had been bottling up inside his heart would develop into a large nuclear war head ready to drop down on Viral. No one guessed that the rehab training was for a return to the same company that didn't want him anymore. No one guessed that the next Hiroshima would occur in the Viral Wrestling ring.
Everyone knew Benson as a good man. Being a good man STILL doesn't take you to the top. Benson had come to learn this. Benson had come to despise himself for this. Benson had come to be a bad man.
Benson wasn't going to take the insult on the chin any longer. He was pissed.
