Hello everyone and welcome to a jammed packed version of the After-Steam: New Years Evil Edition! We have ALOT to talk about because NYE took place over 3 days. 11 Hours of matches, drama and suspense! Don't believe me? Sit down and watch for yourselfs.
So let's get to it with my Rant of the Week:
Randomness of title matches! I don't mean what occurs in the actual match but leading up to it. In the past usually a few days piror to event everyone knew who the challenger was for any given title, and since all titles MUST be defended at ppv's you would think these would be very high profile and personal feuds. Think again. The only title that had any real build up was the Vixxen's title match, and the HellCats title became personal with Brooke's little adventure with Ethan, but even that was more of an open challenge. Ethan Quinn backing out of the BOTN title was a shock, guess the bookers wanna play out the angle with Bobby Williams, and the X-Rated Title, I got an email about who was in that...surprised it was even defended. So to sum up the rant...let's see some build up, doesn't need to take the whole month, but these last minute challengers gotta stop.
Also...I've been noticing something else...the 'Golden Briefcase(s)' is/are cursed! How you may ask? Ill tell you. Christian Goodchild wins the briefcase to make him the #1 contender for the Viral World Title. He's been very infrequent and have heard very little from the man since Infection. Cult Stevens won the second briefcase and not long after was seriously injured, which means he was stripped of the briefcase and another match was held which was won by Benson Dane...who now hasn't been seen or heard from in over a month...concensidense, I think not! Seems whomever wins these damn things are doomed to fade to the background instead of getting that big push they were promised...WTF Viral!
Ok now there ya go 2 rants for the price of 1, now onto Wins & Fails:
1: FINALLY! We have Tag Team Championships! I know I've been raving for awhile that we need them and now they are finally here! Yes these belts with travel between Viral and I:W but that just makes the tag division stronger by adding more teams. So congrats to the Bulldogs and the team of Lexi & NEON for become the first champions beating out some tough and surprising teams! Like the Crusade and Nikki and Brooke. Just goes to show that anything can and will happen. Now hopefully we see these teams in action this week on X-Stream to stake their claim.
2. Shout out to JYNX and Jenna aka Double J, who did not win the tag titles but did retain and claim the HellCat and Vixxen's Championship. This makes JYNX the first women to hold both belts, and she did it within 3 weeks of each other, while Jenna on the other hand fought off Brooke Lynn in a brutal hardcore match. The downside though is now this put a massive target on their backs as every women in Viral will be gunning for them. I suspect Raiyven isn't done with JYNX and I'm positive Brooke isn't finished with Jenna. Things are starting to heat up and I look forward to watching it unfold.
3. Mr. International did a pretty good job as a transition champion, holding the belt for 3 weeks till Matthias Marlfox defeated him for it. While the way Matthias got into the match was odd it was indeed a good thing as Matthias had deserved a chance at the title for awhile now, but that Risky Business stipulation kept him from it. Matthias is going to be an excellent champion, hopefully just as good as Nate Michaels, who may very well be the only person who could take the belt of Matthias.
Time for the Fails:
1. The Debuts. With the exception of Nikki and Buck our debuts didn't fair very well, either losing or getting counted out. I wasn't impressed as these new talent are the keys to Viral growing. This ties back to my rant last week about new talent losing, it needs to stop especially given the talent they have. Poor use of skill bookers!
2. The X-Rated Title Match. WTF was that, seemed just like a filler match, and normally the champion retains in filler matches, but in this case 'England' won...Yup...ill leave it at that...
3. I:W in ViralPro. Yes I:W hasn't started yet, but the only reason I:W talent should be involved with ViralPro is if they are the tag team champions like the Bulldogs are. Other then that, they have their own league that they signed with. Tough from them. Either find a way out of your contract or deal with it.
Now for Around the League
Nate defeated the Hood for the second week in a row gearing up for a run at the World Title, and it wasn't a bad loss for Hood either losing to one of the Best in the World, he did manage a good amount of offense but in the end Nate was to much for the Crusader.
Mari Pain, Michelle Rochefort, Nikki Mauler & Buck Wylde are welcome additions to the Viral Roster. This adds more depth to the roster and will help the league with the number of injuries that have been happening!
And that's it for the After-Stream ladies and gents. Another month down and now we prepare for this weeks X-Stream. Join me then for the preshow and tune into 'Smart TV'.
