Lucy and Bobby sit in a sidewalk cafe in Canada. The waitress brings Bobby his coffee, as Lucy looks disaprovingly at hers.
I used to own a coffee shop of my own, back in 2009. "Lucy's" was 'the' place to go to relax. Too bad the economy in Atlanta was in the toilet that year. Sometimes I miss it. But right now I just miss the taste of good coffee as I sit here and drink this Canadian Muck.
Bobby offers only a weak smile. He is distant and preoccupied.
Cheer up, kid, your bringing me down. What's on your mind?
Bobby enters into a long speil about letting his father down the moment Ethan Quinn defeated him for the BWA World Title at IW Survive & Conquer. Lucy listens pathiently for a short while, before she intterupts.
Robert... Bobby... The title belt doesn't make the man. The man gets the title because he is worthy of it. You don't need the BWA World Title around your waist as validation. If you just held that belt 24/7 it would become a meaningless trophy, or worse a joke prop. You think you're dad would be ashamed that you lost it on your first defense? Your pops was a fighting champion, he'd be proud that you put it on the line against such a formidable opponent and showed no fear. I mean have you even taken-in the full scope of how many wins Ethan Quinn has gotten under his belt over the past two months or so? The man is no slouch inbetween the ropes. He just has women on the mind. We do have our ways of leading young men by the noses and getting them to do what we want...
Lucy flashes a grin at Bobby, knowing full well that he had her to thank for his pro wrestling career. His father had not wanted him to follow in his footsteps, but Lucy could spot talent, even back in 2009 when she recruited him. And even though he was a former two-time IW World Class champion, he was only really beginning to hit his stride this year, some four-five years later.
In fact, I'll tell you what I want you to do right now. Right now I want you to cheer up, and stop no-showing my wrestling events. Or have you innocently "forgotten" that you won the FallOut match and have a shot at Sentoryu's IW Gladiator title? Not many people walk from losing a personally-held-dear title belt straight into challenging for an officially recognized one. So you better make sure that you give Sentoryu your all, because he too lost someone close to him recently. Just as you have a tradition to live-up to with Keith Williams, he will be looking to hold onto the Gladiator title belt and prove that he hasn't lost the passion for this business that Fuyuki taught him. You remember Fuyuki, he trained Kazu Yagahashi and Yasha Onihime in 2010 at Fuyuki Office. Yasha was back here breifly in 2011 for the IW Amazon tag division, and since then has worked around the world as a masked 'Japanese Demon' gimmick. Kazu of course has been working dates here and there for ViralPro as the 'Japanese Dragon'. Or simply 'Japan', alongside 'Canada', who I heard was spotted by Mr. international at a PWL event before ViralPro started. That's another thing you have to prove to everyone, Bobby. Are you going to become a breakout star and have a bright future, or are you going to do what you did from 2009 until now; and what lots of those guys are doing currently - working random matches, never gaining a true following, never building a real character?
Bobby simply gives Lucy a death stare in response to her challenge.
That look? That's the look your dad used to get in his eyes when he was training Lionheart, Jason, Me... He expected the best from us. If we doubted ourselves, he didn't think his mentorship was being valued, and that his time was being wasted. So now here we sit in Canada in a cafe drinking hot mud... and you giving me that stare tells me that you are now in the right frame of mind to face Sentoryu.
