Shawn Youngblood sits down in his plane seat and buckles his seatbelt, trying to get comfortable. His mind was racing! Sure the match was short notice with no prior buildup, but he was on his way to compete in his first PPV match in just under a year. He begins muttering to himself, trying to sort through the cloud of thoughts all swirling through his head at once.
"The last time I really competed was in Mexico at IW Conquista last June. My own brother-in-law kicked my ass, killing my old Shawn Hawk character off for good. I hope he rots down there as El Halcon Americano. I came back two weeks later for my last match, a pretty good ladder match on American soil against Colby Donnelly. But I was so mentally defeated that I thought it was time to step-away."
Thinking back a little further, to the end of IW's 2011 season at Rise To Stardom 3, he began to kick himself.
"I should have done better for myself back then. Against Brent Starr and Ryan Whyte I was on the cusp of winning the IW Gladiator title. And then it was all gone. I had just finished watching my baby brother improve his game, rise through the ranks and succeed at capturing the title. Maybe if I had have made some different choices I could have also held the title. And this..."
Shawn catches himself short, thinking how absurd he must seem, hoping that this quickly thrown-together match could lead to bigger and better things, but decides to power through the self-doubt and continue with his train of thought.
"And this... could be my last shot. I've been around this business since 2005, the movies and directing career is long-gone, and I'm certainly not getting any younger. My body can only hold out so long, realistically, especially if I am going to continue to wrestle the only way I know how, with the high speed, high flying. It is time see if I still have it in me..."
Tired of the thoughts in his head, Shawn tries to rest. He would have to if he was going to go out into the ring tonight and wrestle. He just hoped that his return would be remembered fondly.
